BS English – Second Semester
The second semester of the BS English program continues to build students’ core competencies in academic writing, linguistic understanding, and literary appreciation, while also broadening their general knowledge in key interdisciplinary areas.
Course Overview:
GC104 – Islamic Studies (2 Cr Hrs): A compulsory course that explores Islamic beliefs, practices, ethics, and contributions to civilization, aimed at fostering moral and spiritual development.
GC105 – Elementary Mathematics & Statistics (3 Cr Hrs): A general course providing basic mathematical and statistical skills essential for logical reasoning and analytical thinking across disciplines.
GC106 – Introduction to Philosophy (3 Cr Hrs): Offers an overview of philosophical thought, including major thinkers, concepts, and schools of philosophy, encouraging critical and reflective thinking.
ELL104 – English II: Composition Writing (3 Cr Hrs): A foundational course focused on developing coherent and persuasive academic writing through structured composition techniques.
ELL105 – Introduction to Phonetics & Phonology (3 Cr Hrs): Introduces students to the basic concepts and systems of English sounds, laying the groundwork for advanced linguistic and pronunciation studies.
ELL106 – Literary Forms and Movements (3 Cr Hrs): Examines key literary forms (such as poetry, drama, and fiction) and major literary movements, enhancing students’ analytical and interpretative abilities.
Total Credit Hours: 17
This semester deepens students’ foundational knowledge in language and literature, while promoting interdisciplinary awareness and academic expression.
