BS English – Eighth Semester
The final semester of the BS English program broadens students’ literary and cultural horizons through the study of global literatures, translation theory, and gender discourse. It encourages critical reflection on language diversity and postcolonial identities while preparing students for advanced academic or professional pursuits.
Course Overview:
ELL406 – Postcolonial Literature (3 Cr Hrs): Explores literary works from formerly colonized regions, focusing on issues such as identity, resistance, cultural hybridity, and the legacy of colonialism.
ELL407 – American Literature (3 Cr Hrs): Examines major American authors and movements, analyzing historical and thematic developments in American prose, poetry, and drama.
ELL408 – Introduction to Translation Studies (3 Cr Hrs): Introduces key concepts and strategies in translation, with emphasis on linguistic equivalence, cultural adaptation, and translation ethics.
ELL409 – Introduction to Women’s Writing (3 Cr Hrs): Highlights literary contributions by women, addressing themes of gender, voice, power, and feminist perspectives across various genres.
ELL410 – World Englishes (3 Cr Hrs): Studies the global varieties of English, their sociolinguistic characteristics, and the cultural implications of English as an international language.
