BS English – Fifth Semester
The fifth semester of the BS English program advances students’ literary, theoretical, and linguistic understanding while broadening their global and environmental awareness. It emphasizes critical engagement with diverse texts and sociocultural contexts.
Course Overview:
GC301 – Introduction to International Relations (3 Cr Hrs): A general course that introduces the fundamentals of international politics, global affairs, and diplomatic relations, enhancing students’ understanding of world systems.
GC302 – Introduction to Environmental Studies (3 Cr Hrs): A compulsory course focusing on environmental challenges, sustainability, and human impact on nature, fostering ecological awareness and responsibility.
ELL301 – Romantic and Victorian Poetry (3 Cr Hrs): Examines key poetic works and movements from the Romantic and Victorian periods, focusing on literary style, themes, and historical context.
ELL302 – Foundations of Literary Theory & Criticism (3 Cr Hrs): Introduces major literary theories and critical approaches, providing students with tools to analyze literature from various interpretive perspectives.
ELL303 – Sociolinguistics (3 Cr Hrs): Explores the relationship between language and society, including language variation, identity, and sociocultural influences on communication.
ELL304 – Popular Fiction (3 Cr Hrs): Analyzes widely read genres such as detective fiction, romance, and science fiction, highlighting their cultural impact and narrative structures.
