BS English – Fourth Semester
The fourth semester of the BS English program deepens students’ engagement with classical literature, academic writing, and linguistic theory. It fosters critical thinking, literary analysis, and awareness of social responsibilities through an interdisciplinary approach.
Course Overview:
GC204 – Human Rights & Citizenship (3 Cr Hrs): A compulsory course that educates students on fundamental human rights, civic responsibilities, and the principles of democratic citizenship in a global context.
ELL204 – English IV: Academic Reading & Writing (3 Cr Hrs): A foundational course designed to strengthen students’ academic literacy through advanced reading strategies and structured writing for academic contexts.
ELL205 – Classical and Renaissance Drama (3 Cr Hrs): Explores major dramatic works from classical antiquity and the Renaissance period, focusing on form, themes, and cultural significance.
ELL206 – Classical Poetry (3 Cr Hrs): Engages students with traditional poetic forms and timeless literary themes from ancient and early modern periods, emphasizing interpretation and critical analysis.
ELL207 – Semantics (3 Cr Hrs): A subject-specific course examining the study of meaning in language, exploring how words, phrases, and sentences convey meaning in various contexts.
ELL208 – Rise of the Novel (18th to 19th Century) (3 Cr Hrs): Traces the development of the novel as a literary form, analyzing major works and themes from the 18th and 19th centuries.
